What We Use

Homeschooling can be quite intimidating. I think I'm a fairly intelligent person in general, but my education has been in the counseling field not the formal education of others. I struggled for a while in finding the best way to teach Isaiah the things that he needs to learn. Part of my problem was learning to figure out where Isaiah was in his learning levels and working from that point.  I have tried several things and felt like I was beating my head against a wall.  As the time drew nearer for Isaiah to actually start school, I felt slightly panicked.  I was obsessed, really.  God used several friends and some big life changes to change me.

Isaiah is 7, and the "letter of intent" has been mailed to our school district.  My sister-in-law introduced me to ABC Jesus Loves Me, a free preschool curriculum that focuses on teaching your child about the Bible while giving them the tools they need for kindergarten.  I could feel my panic rising again, but then as I looked at the curriculum, I began to think of ways that I could make this fun.  We've expanded our resources a little bit to include My Father's World resources and Rod and Staff.

We have certain challenges in our schooling that the average family probably won't face.  As Isaiah learns, I'm learning, too.  I'm learning more and more about the wonderful son that God has given us.  And amazingly I'm also learning more about our wonderful God.

Isaiah now has a classmate - his favorite little person - his sister.  She's 3 and extremely rambunctious, which makes for lots of active, fun learning.  These two are like peas in a pod and teach each other in the process of life.  I'm excited for what we'll all learn together.
